Internet, Dr. Google, social media and social web draw a new environment for the healthcare industry. An environment marked by the “2.0“ hospitals with solid professionals. The hospitals, health centers and any health organization is owing to the patient, the user, the citizen. We have to be excellent and transparent professionals, we have to break the walls and we must provide proper training and information. We can achieve all of that by improving the communication.Because communication is compatible with scientific rigor and ethics, XXI century hospitals and medical services should jump to the next level of social web without fear nor shame, but with science, awareness, quality, color and heat. Just do it, and do it the right way and together taking the advantages of the provided resources by the web 2.0, which mainly are communication, dissemination, collaboration and multimedia. In the article, we discuss the experience launching the website of the Department of Pediatrics of the Hospital General Universitario of Alicante, once defined our objectives, our “reason why”, content and form. With this web site we became visible to the public and professionals, and useful not only to practitioners health but also to the citizens in general (the user, the patient) and to the society beyond its physical structure, and it has proved to be useful as a tool for providing information, training and management. And by becoming visible, we always improve: it is an inexorable law.

Open science is the movement that pretends to make the scientific research and the dissemination of data accessible to all levels. It involves open access publication and the generated research data publication and reuse (open research data). Participating in open science and sharing publications and research data promotes scientific work, increases their citation and impact and contributes to the advancement of science. The main strategies to increase the spread and impact of the papers are: 1) to publish quality papers; 2) to publish in the best journals; 3) to publish in open access journals; 4) to publish and to share raw research data; 5) to include papers in Google Scholar and to create a Google Scholar Citations profile, and 6) to take advantage of web 2.0 tools, such as including content in wikis, participating in social networks, uploading professional videos to the Internet, publishing your own website and blog, sharing bibliographic references and slides, participating in mailing lists and providing an ORCID profile.

Knowing how to structure the methodology for the information search and how to be updated on the resources available on the internet (Web 1.0 and 2.0) is basic to any health professional. In this article we try to answer three basic questions for the pediatrician: where to search, how to search and how to be updated.
We describe the systematic searching and updating methodology we propose from the Evidence Based Pediatrics Working Group, taking into account that there is no an ideal or universal methodology for bibliographic information searching.
