Servicio de Pediatría. Hospital «Álvaro Cunqueiro». Vigo (Pontevedra)
Abstract
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common cause of congenital infection in developed countries. CMV can also be transmitted postnatally. Postnatal infection is usually asymptomatic. When symptoms appear, the most common are hepatitis, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia or septic appearance. Significant impairment of the hematopoietic system due to postnatal CMV infection is extraordinary. We report a severe pancytopenia secondary to postnatal CMV infection in a 2 month old infant.
